For years I have seen the jumble of Tlingit regalia, much of which is regularly used, in every corner at Alaska Indian Arts in Fort Seward, Haines. One day as I looked in the closet, I saw a number of interesting compositions of objects as they lie there on top of and next to one another. Lee Heinmiller allowed me to set my easel in the closet to paint from life, and I couldn’t help but arrange a composition with the objects, rather than find one. It was a commission for the Arts Confluence’s Ft. Seward Interpretive Sculpture Garden, a local project with an Artplace America grant.
