Laurel is the daughter of one of my best friends from college who followed me to California. I lived nearby as she was growing up. She always wanted to show me her latest ballet pieces. I posed her on top of the flat files in my studio, as if on stage, while I sketched and photographed her in the pose I wanted to paint.
