“Ready for the Dance” oil on linen 24″x30″ 2019 $6500
Before she came to model, I planned my composition around the blue dress that I had seen Stoli dance in at the fair. The composition was designed to tell a story about the young lady, ready for the dance. The silk I had just purchased in NYC. Started in the winter when the trees were bare, it was well past spring again when I finally added the view outdoors. Then I wasn’t quite happy with that view. And it took me over a year to gather the courage to change it. During that year I looked at every interior painting that I could find which had a sunny window. Now, after I had to change the year on the signature twice, I am at least calling it done for better or worse and moving on. Artists always hope the next one is better.
