When the class I had signed up for at Studio Incamminati got canceled a few years ago, I decided I would do some plein air painting instead. It was a cold week and I carried my easel around for days before finally setting it up, despite the cold. I did a color study of this red door in the historic Elsfreth Alley in Philadelphia on a forty-five degree April day. I worked up a larger format composition after returning, and I have been coming back to this piece several times, for several years before finally finishing.
